CAMP LIFE

We are lucky enough to have our base inside a national park, the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Park. Through our links with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks and SKL Campswe have a small building consisting of three rooms: a kitchen, office and storage room. We have installed a solar power system so that we can run computers for analysis and a fridge for fresh goods. We also have running water and an ablution block, although some of us still prefer the outside bucket shower!

We have four 3×3 m tents for researcher accommodation, which are usually all occupied, although not always by the same people. Masters and PhD students come through for periods ranging from a few weeks to a few years, so we constantly have new people to talk to and different projects to discuss.

Our main project vehicles are a Landcruiser VX, imported from the UK, which is a great off-road vehicle alongside a Landrover discovery. PhD students generally come with their own and so we get to learn about the mechanics of different off road vehicles.

Our camp is located right next to the Boteti River, approximately 1 km north of the Khumaga park entry gate, at the former game scout camp. If you are passing and interested to hear more about our work please drop by for a chat.
